Staff review - When you reach me, by Rebecca Stead

Thought-provoking and compelling, 'When you reach me' is a story that will leave you thinking about it for a long time after you've finished reading. Every detail counts in the twists and turns of the plot. So much so, that it's hard to review the story without accidentally throwing in a few spoilers. Miranda's life seems to be getting out of control, with friendships falling apart, a mother about to be on a game show, some crazy guy living on the street corner and everyday things missing from her apartment. But it's when the first note turns up that she's really worried. It says "....I am coming to save your friend's life, and my own. I ask two favours. First, you must write me a letter...". Who is coming? Which friend is in danger? A letter about what? Will you be able to work out what's really happening while you read the story? Who knows, but you'll have every chance; all the clues are right there on the pages in front of you!
