Staff review - The uninvited, by Tim Wynne-Jones

18 year-old Mimi flees her problems in New York City to stay for a time in her father's cottage in the isolated beauty of the Canadian wilderness. However, when she arrives at the pretty cottage, sitting alone on its own small island amidst a river, she finds that the cottage is already inhabited by Jay, a young musician who has his own problems. He has been having unwanted visits from someone unknown - visits involving dead birds on the kitchen table, snake skins on his pillow and heavy breathing in his music recordings.

Thrown together through a bizarre twist of circumstance, Jay and Mimi try to protect each other from their unwanted visitor. Is this person friend or foe? The author's done a great job building the suspense, throwing in lots of unexpected twists, and keeping the creepy factor turned up high using the eerie and slightly sinister setting for the story, not to mention his compelling characters. Interesting, twisted, creepy but also satisfying, I really enjoyed this book!
