'We were liars' by E. Lockhart

This book is sooo good we've had two staff review it at once! Read on to see what they thought...

1.
The blurb reads: “We Were Liars is a modern, sophisticated suspense that will leave you reeling. Read it. And if anyone asks you how it ends, just lie.”

We Were Liars is the story of Cady who had an accident, during the summer holidays with her extended family, which left her with crippling migraines and memory loss. Returning two years later to their summer home, her family tries to shield her from what happened but Cady is determined to find out the truth.

It’s best not to know too much before starting. I was as horrified as Cady when she finally pieces together what happened. It  was the clear winner of the Goodreads ‘Best Young Adult Fiction of 2014’ award.

If you only read one book this year this is the one to choose. Each year the four liars spend their summer vacation on their family's private island. But at the end of the 15th summer Cadence Sinclair (the narrator) has an accident, a breakdown or some kind of illness that leaves her broken and with intense migraine headaches, but she can't remember what happened. All she knows is that she was found on the beach dressed in her underwear, the sea washing over her.

Two years later she returns to the island hoping to find the answers she desperately seeks. Despite her family holding tightly to their secrets, she slowly remembers her 15th summer. The secret that unfolds holds a twist which is more shocking than anything I could imagine.

A beautifully written, gripping novel which will have you turning back to the first page as soon as you have finished the last.
