Staff review - A waltz for Matilda, by Jackie French

After her mother dies, 12 year old Matilda O'Hallaran sets out to find her father and the farm he owns. Her father dies tragically before she can really get to know him again and Matilda determinedly takes on the running of the farm, despite the difficulties. She has help from friends, as well as unexpected sources and manages to thrive. Set against a backdrop of floods, droughts and wars, as well as the birth of Australia as a nation, this is a fascinating retelling of Waltzing Matilda.
