Staff review - Reckless, by Cornelia Funke

Jacob Reckless is 10 when he first discovers the world through the mirror in his father's study. His father has been missing for over a year and Jacob believes he may be somewhere through the mirror.

When we next meet Jacob he is 24 and the world through the mirror has drawn him away from his home and his brother, Will. This is a world peopled with fairytale characters and a world where humans and Goyls, people made of stone, are locked in battle. One day Will follows Jacob through the mirror and is wounded by a Goyl weapon which will slowly turn his skin to stone and him into a Goyl. The story moves at heart stopping pace as Jacob races against time to find a way to stop Will from turning to stone. A race which will see Jacob make deals with dwarves and fairies to try to save his brother.
