Staff review - Enders game, by Orson Scott Card

This is in the adult collection, but could be enjoyed by anyone 14 and over. It is also available as a talking book!

Ender is a boy who has lost control of his own life. When he is 6 years old he is selected for 'battle school' where he begins training to join a space army. The children play computer games, learn tactics, and fight pretend battles in zero gravity using lasers. But as he grows up in the strange environment of the battle school, Ender begins to question everything. Why do the adults always want them to fight? Is earth really under attack from aliens? And why isn't he allowed to see his family? Ender realises that there is no one he can trust to tell him the truth, and that he must find it out for himself. This is a great sci-fi adventure and coming of age story.
