Staff review - Behemoth, by Scott Westerfeld

Behemoth is the seond book in Scott Westerfeld's latest body of work: the Leviathan trilogy. Book 1, Leviathan has been reviewed twice on aboutthebooks, once by Gareth and the other time by me. Both of us liked it, and we are not alone.

Behemoth picks up where Leviathan left off. Deryn, the young British girl posing as a boy is serving aboard the Leviathan, a living airship genetically engineered from, among other creatures, a whale. Alek, heir to an empire is in hiding as a commoner. The British are now at war with the Germans and their army of mechanical walking machines and as you might expect, Deryn and Alek find themselves caught up in the middle of it. Add to the mix the Behemoth, the British Navy's newest sea creature, capable of sinking enemy ships with ease, and things really get interesting.

Another fantastic story set in an alternate World War I. Lots of adventure, subterfuge, strange creatures and amazing machinery. Definitely worth a read.
