Getting the Book You Want!

Reservation and inter-branch transfer of books is now free at the City of Boroondara Libraries (Yeah!)

But what does that mean?

It means that, if you are sitting at home this September holidays and you have already made yourself Nachos, watched four or five DVD’s, and all your MSN friends are offline … and you are reading http://aboutthebooks.blogspot.com/ (desperate measures for desperate times), and you have decided you want to order a copy of, North Child, by Edith Pattou (well, of course you do, I suggested it). This is how you would start:

First you go to the library web page: http://www.boroondara.vic.gov.au/leisure/library
(you know that don't you?)

Now click on the orange button that says visit your library online.

There it is - the catalogue - you feel like you are at the library even though you are at home.
But how would you look up North Child?

I know you are the techno savvy web 2.0 generation but here is a search tip - I had to do a Degree and a Graduate Diploma to get this sort of information but I will share it with you -another freebie from the City of Boroondara Library Service (Yeah us!).

Type in the key words, 'pattou,' and, 'north,' as in the screen below.

Click on the Place a Reservation button that is on the top of the screen.

Enter you user name (which is your library card number) and your PIN (which is your birthdate dd/mm/yy). If you have trouble with your PIN give us a call: 92784666

And remember to choose the location you want to pick up from and you are away …

The only thing I asked you to remember, sitting there in the comfort of your bedroom, with your laptop humming and your iPod pulsing, is that when you reserve a book someone has to go and find it on the shelf ... and check it in ... and put it in a box ... and send it to the 'pick up location'

But we don’t mind. We really don’t mind any of it - we love finding books for people - just make sure you collect them ... that’s all we ask. :-)
