10 Aussie Books to Read Before You Die

We are well into 2013 (I have broken my New Year's resolutions already) and as the Mayan Prophecy has not come true, I thought I would visit The First Tuesday's Book Club Aussie booklist. Check out the list for yourself here

Spoiler Alert: the number two spot went to The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. I am a big fan of Mr Zusak, particularly The Messenger which is my favourite book of all time, ever.

The Book Thief book caused a bit of controversy on the Book Club's panel. Zusak has traditionally been branded as a Young Adult author and a very good one at that. Marieke Hardy (who I also quite enjoy) made me a bit cranky with her comments. She thought The Book Thief was too simple and sweet, which is a perfectly fine opinion to have. But then she went on to say that this was because Zusak is a YA author, implying that all YA books are simple and sweet.

How wrong you are Marieke!

YA fiction is rich with complex themes, ideas and writing styles. YA can push the boundaries that boring old adult fiction can only dream of. Anyone not reading YA fiction is missing out.

Let us know 5 of the best YA books you are reading over the Summer holidays to go in the draw to win an amazing prize http://bit.ly/summerYA
PS: Even though, anyone who is anyone is reading YA fiction, unfortunately you have to be a secondary aged student to enter this comp.
