Inheritance by Christopher Paolini

After nearly ten years since the first book - Eragon - was published, the final book of Paolini's bestselling 'Inheritance Cycle', was released in late 2011. In it we witness the complete transformation of Eragon from poor farmboy to Shadeslayer and Dragon Rider, accomplished soldier and respected advisor to the peoples of Alagaesia. After long months of training and battles, Eragon and Saphira are to finally put the last pieces of the puzzle together and to find the strength, alliances and resources to do battle with Galbatorix - but they are not alone. The many characters we have met through the previous three books are with them (or against them), though not all will survive. Paolini's writing has certainly improved with age and experience, and this book is beautifully written and very enjoyable (and at 860 pages it's not for the faint hearted). The book takes its time crafting the final story with lots of twists and turns before its dramatic climax, and is the better for it. For those who like action, it is absolutely packed with battles, for those who like character development - you'll be satisfied too!
