Code name Verity by Elizabeth Wein

This is a brilliant book.  In 1943 a British spy parachutes into France and is captured by the Gestapo. Going under various names, including Verity, she buys precious time for herself by writing down all she knows about the British war effort.  She also tells the story of her friendship with pilot Maddie Brodatt.  But, just when you think you know where the story is heading, it takes a uturn to an ending that will leave you stunned and make you want to go back and read the book again so you can find all the clues in this amazing book.
