Staff review: August by Bernard Beckett

An interesting book set in some other reality where we meet Tristan and Grace, trapped in a car-wreck waiting until daylight for the hope of rescue. While they wait, they talk, and it becomes apparent that they have a complex shared history. Tristan, a philosopher raised in a strict religious community, struggles with the issues of love, life and free will. Grace, whose actions as a child have set her on a path of much greater hardship, has no time for philosophy, just survival. As readers we experience a tale that is part love story and part thriller, with a great twist at the end. A satisfying read for teens and adults alike.
