The piper's son, by Melina Marchetta

The gang from Saving Francesca are back only this time it’s Thomas Mackee who needs saving. Tom’s world is torn apart when his Uncle Joe is killed in the London underground terrorist bombing. Tom is overcome by grief and feels let down by his father who turns to alcohol for solace and his mother who moves to Queensland. Having reached the bottom of the depths of despair Tom moves in with his Auntie Georgie and with her help, and the unwavering support of his friends, Tom slowly pieces his life back together again. The old Tom, who loves a laugh, begins to resurface and he tentatively finds the way to reconnect with Tara Finke who he walked away from when his Uncle died and also finds the way to forgive his father

This is another wonderful book from Melina Marchetta which will make you love her characters even more while you laugh and cry with them.
